Covington man taken into custody after SWAT standoff

COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) -

St. Tammany Parish sheriff's deputies, with assistance from the Mandeville Police Department, took a 22-year old Covington man into custody after a brief standoff outside his parents' home Wednesday afternoon.

Around noon, a passerby called 911 to report that the man was outside the home in the River Oaks subdivision with a gun pointed at his head.

When deputies arrived, the man was initially uncooperative and the Sheriff's office SWAT team was called to the scene.

As officers were arriving at the residence, patrol deputies who had been at the scene were able to take the man into custody without injury to anyone involved.

The man was transported to Lakeview Hospital where he will undergo an evaluation.
