TERREBONNE PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A Theriot mother and her three-year-old daughter have died after a vehicle lost control, overturned and became submerged in a Terrebonne Parish canal.
Officers say the incident happened just before 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on La. 315, three miles south of Falgout Canal Road.
Louisiana State Police say that Ashley Worrell, 31, was driving northbound on La. 315 when she lost control of her vehicle and traveled off the right side of the roadway.
Worrell, in an attempt to get back on the road, overcorrected and lost control, police say. Officers say the vehicle then traveled off the left side of the roadway, entered a canal, overturned and became submerged.
The driver and passenger were pulled from the vehicle by volunteer firefighters. Worrell was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner's Office.
The passenger in the vehicle, identified as 3-year-old Delaney Lirette, was transported to Terrebonne General Hospital. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
