METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - The body of a 24-year-old man was found Friday in a Metairie canal, according to Jefferson Parish Sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato.
The man was found face down in the water at about 8 a.m. at the I-10 Service Road and Independence Street. His body had no signs of trauma, Fortunato said. An autopsy will be performed by the Jefferson Parish Corner's Office to determine the cause of death.
A witness told investigators that he met the victim Thursday afternoon while sitting along the canal bank. After drinking alcohol for several hours, the witness left and saw the victim jump into the water to go swimming.
When the witness returned to the canal to visit the victim again, he discovered his body and called 911.
Fortunato said homicide investigators don't suspect foul play, but anyone with information is asked to call (504) 364-5300.
