Lone gunman robs armored car in Uptown

A lone gunman robbed an armored car Monday morning near Leake Avenue in the uptown area of New Orleans.

The incident happened around 8:40 a.m. Monday morning when a Dunbar armored truck was stopped at a business in the 200 block of Broadway Street.

Police say the robber forced his way into the armored car at gunpoint when one of the guards returned from the business.

The robber forced the guards to drive the truck to the area of Chestnut and Audubon streets, where he fled the truck on foot in an unknown direction, police say.

The suspect fled the scene with an unknown amount of money.

Officers have described the suspect as a black male in his mid 20s or early 30s. He is approximately 6-feet tall with a slim build, police say.

He was last seen wearing a long-sleeve blue shirt, dark pants, white cloth gloves with rubber tips and a white garden style hat covering his face.
