GULF SHORES, AL (WAFB) -

Authorities say a teenager from Ponchatoula, LA is missing in the dangerous surf on the Alabama coast. Officials say 17-year-old Chaston Brown went missing around 4 p.m. Sunday in Gulf Shores.

The search had to be suspended after about three hours because of rough surf and fading light, according to WKRG. The search resumed Monday and a dive team is in the water searching for Brown.

According to WKRG, the weather service says there's currently a high risk of dangerous rip currents on the state's beaches. Double red flags are flying to warn swimmers to stay out of the water.
