After Further Review: Ranking the Saints, 1-5

At last, the countdown has concluded. We've widdled down our top-20 Saints players to the final five.

Here's how they stack up:

5.) Jairus Byrd

Byrd has yet to play a down for the Saints, but when you get (at the time) the highest contract ever awarded to an NFL safety, coming in at number five may even be too low for Byrd.

The Saints are not hoping Byrd will be the playmaker he was in Buffalo, they're expecting him to be so. Byrd was brought here to pick off passes. He had 22 interceptions in five seasons with the Bills. The Saints were a top-five defense without a ballhawk on the back end last year, now they have one in Byrd. Hopefully, he delivers.

4.) Junior Galette

Galette is another major success story for the Saints and their ability to find diamonds in the undrafted rough.

Since 2011, he steadily moved from making the team, to contributing to now being a dominant force in the Saints pass rush. Last year he had his best season yet, with 12 sacks.

3.) Cam Jordan

I think it' fair to call Jordan the best first round draft pick Sean Payton has ever made. Jordan is absolute monster that never comes off the field for the Saints defense. The switch to Rob Ryan only enhanced his abilities last year as he finished with 12.5 sacks and earned his first Pro Bowl.

2.) Jimmy Graham

Call him a tight end, call him a wide receiver. It doesn't really matter, to Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham is simply his top playmaker on the Saints offense.

In five years, Graham has gone from raw football talent with a basketball background to the most dominant tight end in the game.

He earned every penny of his new four year, $40 million contract.

1.)    Drew Brees

Even at 35, the New Orleans Saints are still Drew Brees' team. Since arriving in New Orleans, Brees has made five-thousand yard seasons look routine (it's not that easy folks). He's thrown four in the last six years and is showing no signs of slowing down.

He is the unquestioned leader on the Saints and if they have a championship run in them this season, Brees will play a major role.
