KENNER, LA (WVUE) - Police arrested a convicted sex offender - who is also a former Kenner police officer - after catching him on the online-dating website "Plenty of Fish."
Robert Longo, 54, was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly arranged through social media to meet with someone who turned out to be an undercover detective. Longo was interviewed after his arrest and acknowledged that he was not allowed to use social media because he is a convicted sex offender.
Police began the investigation on July 14 after receiving a tip that Longo was using the website "Plenty of Fish" under the username "quarterman01."
Longo is a convicted sex offender who was found guilty of possession of pornography involving juveniles in 2007. Longo served three years for his conviction and was released on Aug. 14, 2010.
As a Tier 2 sex offender, Longo is not allowed to use social media sites.
Longo was charged with unlawful use of a social networking site and is currently in police custody. No bond has been set.
Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser would not comment on when or how Longo served in the department.
