A typically tranquil community along a stretch of Georgetown Road was rocked early Saturday morning as news of a death investigation spread.
Lewis Saunders has lived near this house for more than 30 years. He watched the investigation unfold from his back porch.
He says there is usually a lot of high spirited activity at the home, but today, those spirits were dampened as grief and tragedy gave way to sorrow.
"I don't care how you look at it, anytime a young person loses their life like that, it's a terrible thing," Lewis Saunders said.
Investigators say EMTs attempted to revive the victim but it was too late.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sunday afternoon, Hanover authorities identified the victim as Braxton G. Vaughan, 25, of Sandston.
Detectives worked for hours combing through the property, searching for anything that could lead them to the answers that friends and family so desperately want.
Betsy Wilkinson has lived in the neighborhood just a short time.
"I'm just shocked that it happened it just doesn't seem like its normal for this neighborhood," Wilkinson said.
At times like these, both neighbors say the community pulls together, hoping the family of this victim remains strong during one of their darkest hours.
Investigators are not looking for any suspects at this time but urge anyone with information about this incident to contact the Hanover County Sheriff's Office at 804-365-6140.
