OPP inmate guilty of having contraband phone in jail

A jury has found an Orleans Parish Prison inmate guilty of having contraband inside the prison.

Keith Kisack got several messages directly from former attorney and current Councilman Jason Williams while in jail. On the stand Tuesday, however, Williams denied knowledge that Kisack had a cell phone in jail.

Williams sent text messages to Kisack on a contraband phone found in Kisack's jail cell, something that's strictly prohibited. But Williams testified if he had known that the texts were going to an illegal phone, he wouldn't have done it.

"I certainly would not have," Williams testified. "It's an ethical obligation - I follow all laws, and wouldn't want my client to get into more trouble."

It took the jury just 20 minutes to reach the verdict.
