Bruce Bourgeois Jr., the man who allegedly killed his girlfriend and her mother in Destrehan, was taken into custody Thursday.
Bourgeois was arrested in Independence by the Independence Police Department. Officers say he was spotted by a citizen at a Dollar General attempting to buy clothing. Authorities were notified and Bourgeois was arrested without incident.
He was taken to the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center and booked on the charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery.
Officers were called Wednesday to the 300 block of Madewood Drive in Ormond Estates in Destrehan around 9 a.m. They found Mia Waite, 34, dead on the scene. Her mother, Carmelina Waite, 62, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Deputies said Carmelina couldn't talk, but brought a note to a neighbor's house asking for help. The note had Bourgeois' name on it.
Mia Waite and Bourgeois have a child together, according to St. Charles Parish spokesman Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange. LaGrange did not know whether the child was home when the stabbings happened, but he said the child was moved to a secure location.
Bourgeois is being help with no bond.
