Marrero woman answers doorbell, is shot twice

MARRERO, LA (WVUE) -

A Marrero woman was in critical condition Thursday night after she answered a ring at her door and was shot twice, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department.

The incident happened at about 8:20 p.m. in the 5000 block of Bowdon Street.

Sheriff Newell Normand said the woman's 11-year-old daughter ran to a neighbor's house for help and the neighbor called 911. Responding deputies found the woman lying on the floor with two gunshot wounds.

The victim's name was not released.

Investigators do not have a motive or a suspect information. Anyone with information is asked to call the Investigations Bureau at (504) 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

    Firefighters with St. Tammany Fire District #4 conducted a water rescue in Mandeville Thursday.  Firefighters were dispatched to the scene where they found a crane had overturned and was submerged in a canal. According to the report, the operator was still underwater. Within four minutes of dispatch, firefighters arrived on scene.
