SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - A party that was meant to celebrate a young woman's acceptance into college turned violent when gun shots rang out in Slidell.
Slidell police have arrested three suspects following a shooting on July 20. The shooting happened near the corner of Daney Street and Tenth Street around 2 a.m.
Police arriving on the scene found Jamar Wilson, 26, lying in the driveway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to University Hospital, where he remains in guarded condition almost two weeks after the incident.
Three suspects were arrested on Friday.
Police have arrested:
- Tyrone Ward, 21-years-old, Slidell, LA (attempted second degree murder)
- Michael Harris, 24-years-old, Slidell, LA (principal to attempted second degree murder)
- Ashley Brandon, 17-years-old, Slidell, LA (accessory after the fact to attempted second degree murder)
Officers say the incident escalated when the homeowner decided it was time for the graduation party to end. The victim allegedly assisted the homeowner in asking people to leave the party.
Officers say the victim bumped into Michael Harris. Harris, who was at the party with Ward and Brandon, engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim, police say. Officers say the three suspects are cousins.
Police say the suspects left the party and returned a short time later with a firearm.
Officers say Ward opened fire on Jamar Wilson from a wooded area, striking the victim multiple times.
"The victim never saw it coming. This was an ambush type of shooting. The victim and the suspects didn't even know each other," says Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith.
Ward, Harris and Brandon were booked at the Slidell City Jail. Early Friday morning, they were transferred to the St. Tammany Parish Jail where a bond will be set.
