METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) -

Three men have been arrested for allegedly trying to sell heroin through a posting on Craigslist.

A concerned citizen in Jefferson Parish alerted authorities to the ad in the ‘general for sale – by owner' section of the website, according to JPSO spokesman John Fortunato.

The ad said:

"take a ride on H train d@pe - $100 (surrounding areas)

Take a ride on H train,dog food, d@pe serious inquiries only !"

Agents from the parish's narcotics division and the Gretna Major Crimes Task Force made arrangements to purchase three bags of "dog food," a street name for heroin, at a supermarket parking lot in Metairie, Fortunato said.

Geral Bowman, 24, of New Orleans, met the agents in the parking lot on Thursday in a GMC pick-up truck. Fortunato said Bowman discarded three plastic bags containing a tan powdery substance and ran away. Officers caught him a short time later in the 3700 block of Powers Blvd.

The driver of the pick-up truck and a passenger drove away. They were stopped at Power Blvd. and West Esplanade Ave. Agents found more of the tan powdery substance in the vehicle. The driver, Michael Zeringue, 32, of Slidell, and passenger, Avion Nelson, 24, of New Orleans were placed under arrest. Fortunato said officers also found a semi-automatic handgun with an obliterated serial number.

Bowman was booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center with the intent to distribute nine grams of heroin, conspiracy to distribute three grams of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm and possession of an unidentifiable firearm.

Nelson and Zeringue were booked with distribute six grams of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm and possession of an unidentifiable firearm.

Fortunato did not say if bond has been set for any of the suspects.
