NORCO, LA (WVUE) - A fire has been extinguished at a biodiesel plant in Norco following an explosion.
According to a St. Charles Parish Emergency Operations spokesperson, the explosion occurred at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Diamond Green Biodiesel Facility in Norco.
The production unit involved has been shut down. No injuries have been reported and no roads are closed in the area.
The fire at the plant has been extinguished and there aren't any threats to residents in the area, according to the spokesperson.
"People have no reason to be concerned. We've had no indication of protective measures for the public, right now the situation appears to be under control," said Ron Perry with St. Charles Parish.
According Diamond Green Biodiesel's website, the plant produces nearly 9,300 barrels of renewable diesel a day for used cooking oil and other materials.
