Police: Paraplegic discovers he was shot 45 minutes after hearing gunfire

Officers say that a paraplegic man did not realize he was shot until 45 minutes after hearing gunfire in the Dixon area.

Police say that the 32-year-old victim reported hearing gunfire around 10:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection on Eagle and Pear Street. The victim, who is paraplegic, heard gunshots at a party, police say.

The victim tells authorities that he did not realize that he was shot until he reached in to his pocket to get some money nearly 45 minutes later.

The victim was shot in the lower part of his body. He was taken to the hospital and treated.
