(WVUE) - A dog has been reunited with his owner after being rescued by a cruise ship on the Mississippi River.
Staff members from the Natchez pulled Sami from the waters of the Mississippi after being spotted from the ship.
Thanks to updated identification tags on the dog, Sami was traced back to his owner in Algiers.
Sami belongs to Bonnie Russell. Russell had left town with her children to attend a camp in Wisconsin. While gone, Sami was placed in the care of a caretaker.
Two of the dogs escaped. Sami was found in the river. The second dog was located later that day.
Capt. Troy Delaney spotted Sami in the water and Capt. Don Houghton ordered the rescue. Two crew members pulled him from the water.
Russell's sister claimed Sami from the crew, stating that she could not thank the crew enough for their efforts.
