A Missouri couple has been arrested following two separate shootings in Lafourche Parish.

Justin Rice, 26, and Christina Higgins, 35, were both arrested on Tuesday in Golden Meadow. Both Rice and Higgins are from Jefferson City, Missouri.

Officers say that the couple was involved in two seemingly unprovoked shootings in Lockport and Golden Meadow.

The first shooting happened just after 1:30 p.m. on July 31. Police say that a woman was driving on LA Highway 308 in Lockport when she turned into a business parking lot. The woman tells police that she heard something strike her vehicle.

Deputies found a hole near the driver's side door and recovered a bullet and a 9 mm casing at the scene. It was later determined that the shot had been fired from a green sport-utility vehicle driving behind the victim, police say.

Two days later, police received reports of a second shooting on Settlement Lane in Golden Meadow. Officers say that a resident approached two individuals spotted near storage units at the back of the street. The resident tells police he approached the suspects to see if they needed assistance.

As the resident approached the individuals in his vehicle, shots were fired. Police say the two suspects began driving away in the SUV, but stopped and fired additional rounds at the victim in his vehicle.

An investigation into the shooting revealed that the SUV had Missouri plates.

Police say the suspect vehicle was spotted along LA 1 in Golden Meadow on Tuesday. Upon making contact with the suspects, officers say they found 9mm shell casings inside of the vehicle.

A further investigation into the couple found that Rice had an active warrant for probation and parole in Missouri. Police say they were also able to link the couple to both shootings. Rice allegedly fired the gun in both incidents, police say.

Rice has been charged with attempted second degree murder and two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property. Higgins was charged as a principle to all three charges.

They were booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Rice is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond and will eventually be extradited to Missouri for probation and parole charges. Higgins is being held in lieu of $40,000 bond.
