The plan for a new terminal at Armstrong International Airport moved forward Thursday with the awarding of a contract worth $500 million.

Our partners at NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune report that the construction contract went to Hunt-Gibbs-Boh-Metro. It edged out rivals Nola Airport Builders, which now has 10 days to contest the decision.

The winner was selected by a review committee appointed by the Aviation Board.

It's estimated that 13,000 jobs will be created by the construction of the new terminal, a solar power plant a hotel and a new I-10 ramp.
