Supermoon takes center stage

The Internet is buzzing following a heavenly show from Earth's neighbor.

Known to scientists as a pedigree moon, the supermoon took center stage Sunday night.  As the moon rose Sunday evening, it was the closest a full moon would get to earth during 2014 – appearing brighter and larger than normal.

Social media has exploded with beautiful photos of the phenomenon.

Tony Stewart skips race

As a probe begins, NASCAR star Tony Stewart steps away from the racetrack.

Stewart skips a Sprint Cup race the day after his dirt-track car struck and killed fellow driver Kevin Ward, Jr. who tried to confront him. More questions than answers remain after video of the controversial collision was released. An investigator says there is no sign of criminal intent, but criminal charges have not been ruled out.

Shark Week is in full swing.

Kicking off Sunday, Discovery Channel's annual celebration of all things "sharky" is creating quite the social media buzz.

It's the longest running cable television programming event in history, originally created to raise awareness and respect for sharks.
