HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - A teenager was arrested in Houma after a traffic accident led to the discovery of heroin and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle she was driving, according to police.
Officers were called to the area of New Orleans Blvd. and Park Ave. around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday to investigate the accident.
Police said one of the drivers, 19-year-old Payton Heard, appeared impaired. They said drug paraphernalia was in plain view inside the vehicle. Heard also showed physical signs of drug use. She was immediately placed under arrest.
A K9 unit was called to the scene and showed a positive odor response from the passenger side of the vehicle near the passenger door. A search turned up two grams of suspected heroin and a spoon to cook the drug.
Police said Heard failed field sobriety tests and admitted to using heroin earlier in the morning. She was arrested and booked for: possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, disobeying a red light, no liability insurance, DWI, and no drivers license on person.
No one was injured in the crash.
