A man who was stabbed in the French Quarter Wednesday night later died at the hospital. Police said the man had also been stabbed Sunday.
Wednesday's incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Toulouse Street.
Police responding to a call of a man down in the street found the 47-year-old victim with a stab wound to the chest. Witnesses told police that they saw the victim involved in a physical fight with another man. Witnesses said during the fight, the man shoved the victim in the chest, causing him to fall.
During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the victim, who was homeless, had also been stabbed late Sunday in another incident in the 600 block of Decatur Street. During that incident, the victim was taken the to the hospital, where he was treated and released.
It is not known if the incidents are related.
The suspect in Wednesday night's stabbing is described as a black male with a dark complexion, a scruffy beard and shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was about 5'05" to 5'06" tall and between 30 and 40 years old. He was last seen wearing a white jacket with possibly a red shirt underneath.
