Deputy struck by truck while on sheriff's department motorcycle

An Orleans Parish Sheriff's deputy was struck by a truck while returning from an assigned motorcycle escort today.

According to an OPSO spokesperson, Deputy Hugh Blatcher had just completed an escort and was returning the Sheriff's Office motorcycle to the motorcycle barn around noon when the accident occurred.

Blatcher was struck by a Ford F-150, driven by a 43-year-old man trying to cross Earhart on Leonidas Street, according to police.

Blatcher was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. His condition is unknown.

The driver of the truck was not injured during the accident.
