METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Who Dats lined up outside the Saints facility in Metairie Sunday for their first chance to watch the team in a pre-season practice at home. Some even traveled thousands of miles just to catch the action!
Scorching temperatures and the threat of rain didn't keep Who Dats from turning out to practice Sunday afternoon. Tangipahoa Parish resident Lewis Nick Joseph says, "I love the Saints and I'm here to cheer them on."
Fan Bobby Blake adds, "It's in my blood, never missed it and I love it and I'm gonna be there till the day I die."
The wait to this day has been a long one, after the Saints decided to start pre-season workouts in West Virginia. But while they were away, you can be sure their fans kept watch and kept a countdown until the team returned home. "Oh I had withdrawals, look, I couldn't take it," said Joseph.
For Joyce Sellars, turning out to see the team play has special meaning. Sellars explains, "I lost my husband and he was a Saints fan so I promised him I would never miss a game and I'd go in his honor every time."
That includes practices. In fact, Sellars is even starting a family tradition, flying in her young grandson, from Oregon, to partake in the action.
Grace Ortiz flew in from Puerto Rico! "I've been coming on a yearly basis," said Ortiz.
Now that they're getting an up close view of the team, most of these fans say they like what they see but there are definite improvements Sean Payton has to make after Friday's game against the Titans. Richard Brady says, "I think he's going to tighten them up after the other night. I don't think we'll see a lot of penalties out here today."
They've got high hopes for the rest of pre-season and then on to the regular games, where these Who Dats think, this Saints team can take it all the way!
