Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the Aug. 10 drive-by shooting that killed two people and injured five in the Lower Ninth Ward.
Joseph Nelson, 23, was booked Monday on two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder. The NOPD believes Nelson was one of two shooters in the incident. Nelson has a criminal history that includes armed robbery, a narcotics arrest and illegal carrying of a firearm. He is currently on probation for burglary until April 23, 2016.
Ashely Shorts, 25, was booked with conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice. The NOPD believes Shorts helped one of the shooters hide from police.
Police said several men opened fire on a group of people on a porch in the 5400 block of Burgundy Street at about 8 p.m. The shooting killed Jasmine Anderson, 16, and Terrance McBride, 33. Police said McBride was the target of the shooting, which they said was drug-related.
Also arrested are Blair Taylor, 21, and Jeffrey Rivers, 25. Police said they believe Taylor was the gunman and Rivers was the driver of the vehicle used in the attack. Both are jailed at Orleans Parish Prison on two counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted first-degree murder.
