Purse lost in NY returned to Henrico teen

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) -

A Henrico teen's purse, filled with everything from her wallet to her passport, found its way home from a Burger King in New York! You will never guess how this local family is choosing to say thank you to a good samaritan.  This story takes a multi-million dollar twist!

"I just can't believe it," said 16-year-old Leilani Porter. "I'm just so thankful that I can thank them publicly for it. If they hadn't done such a careless act of kindness who knows what would have happened to it."

The purse went missing Saturday. The family reviewed receipts and managed to track the purse to a Burger King in Albany, New York. That happened on Wednesday. Mom, Jody Hughes, sent off a Fed-ex box with a return address, and the staff at Burger King promptly sent the purse back.

"They could have so easily let it sit there," said Hughes." I'm in shock. I really am in shock."

She couldn't help thinking the worst. She feared her daughter would fall victim to identity theft.

"Exactly," said Hughes. "I said you have an angel looking out for you because this isn't normal. This doesn't happen."

The family is sending the staff at Burger King mega millions lottery tickets to say thank you.

"They might win," said Hughes. "Because then it's lucky money. It's coming out of the lucky purse."

The mega millions jackpot is currently $180 million. The family says the tickets are for next Friday's drawing.
