NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A Tulane running back faces charges of simple battery and robbery in Orleans Parish.

Court records show that 21-year-old Rob Kelley was arrested on August 4. He posted a $10,000 bond at his first court appearance that same day.

According to our partners at NOLA.com/The Times Picayune, authorities saw Kelley hit a student several times before taking his bicycle.

Tulane will open their season Thursday in Tulsa without the senior running back.

The school released a statement confirming Kelley's suspension, but did not offer further explanation.

The statement said:

"Federal law prohibits the University from disclosing any disciplinary action regarding his or her enrollment in the university."
