Algiers property owner shoots burglary suspect in head

An Algiers property owner shot a man who was allegedly stealing copper Wednesday.

The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of Vallette Street.

Fourth District officers responded to a call of burglary suspects fleeing the area. When they arrived, detectives learned that the property owner fired at the suspects, hitting one of them, a 50-year-old man, in the head. He was taken to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

The other suspect, 34-year-old Joseph Cross, will be booked with theft of copper. He was not injured in the shooting.

The property owner has been questioned by NOPD. The investigation is ongoing and police will present their findings to the District Attorney's Office for review.
