KENNER, LA (WVUE) - A Metairie man was severely injured Thursday morning after he was struck by a van in Kenner.
The accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of Bainbridge Street. Kenner police said a 55-year-old man was driving a van southbound on Bainbridge Street when he drifted onto the right shoulder and struck the 36-year-old victim who was walking along the curb.
The pedestrian sustained severe injuries, including several broken ribs, facial fractures and a brain hemorrhage. He is listed in critical condition at University Hospital.
The van was not insured at the time of the crash and had several violations, including an expired license plate, a switched license place registration sticker and a counterfeit inspection sticker, police said. The driver of the van was also hospitalized for underlying medical reasons.
Kenner police said criminal charges are pending.
