With no Drew Brees in the lineup, the backup battle took center stage against the Ravens. Luke McCown and Ryan Griffin gave Head Coach Sean Payton a lot to think about before final cuts. Go with three quarterbacks, or two and save a spot for another position?
The Ravens won the contest 23-13, ending the Saints preseason at 3-1, but QB competition was one of the main talking points.
McCown finished a flawless one drive leading to a touchdown. Griffin was 11-21 passing, 126 yards.
McCown got the start, and he didn't disappoint. On the Saints first offensive drive McCown went 4-4 passing, 29 yards, finishing the sequence with a Travaris Cadet 3-yard touchdown.
Griffin answered with a 52-yard strike to Robert Meachem, but the drive only amounted to a field goal. Derek Dimke's 23-yard kick tied the score at ten.
Right before half Griffin connected with rookie phenom Brandin Cooks for 21 yards. The connection would lead to another Dimke field goal, this time from 49 yards out. Baltimore would lead at half 16-13.
Baltimore scored all six points in the second half with two field goals.
