At around 3:45 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of South Rampart Street to investigate reports of a male suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers found 23-year-old Michael Sanders with a gunshot wound to the leg and an abrasion to his head.
Sanders told police he was walking in the block when he was approached by 29-year-old Ronald Davis and an unknown accomplice. Both Sanders and Davis immediately became involved in a physical fight. During the fight, the unknown accomplice struck Sanders with a pistol and fired several shots at him. The suspect then fled the scene.
Davis fled toward nearby Tulane Avenue with Sanders following him and firing multiple shots, one of which struck Davis in the leg.
Both Davis and Sanders were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both men have been treated and released.
Sanders was booked into Central Lock up and charged with illegal carrying of a firearm and possession of stolen property. Police said the gun he used in the shooting was reported stolen out of Jefferson Parish.
Davis was booked with being a principal to aggravated battery by shooting.
