A Bogalusa man was arrested Wednesday for the rape of a child.

Walter A. Johnson, 67, is being held in the Washington Parish Jail on a charge of aggravated rape. Bond has been set at $300,000.

Johnson was arrested after a complaint from the child's family member led to an investigation by the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office.

Due to the age of the child and the nature of the crime, further details will not be released, the Sheriff's Office said.

Participating in the investigation were Washington Parish Sheriff's Office Investigator Damon Mitchell, Washington Parish Deputy Demi Rice, Rayburn Correctional Center Major Thomas Mitchell and the Children's Advocacy Center.

"As a parent and grandparent, I am appalled at the thought of any adult committing sexual battery on a child," said Sheriff Randy Seal. "Our staff did an excellent job gathering evidence to make an arrest in this matter. I am so pleased with their hard work and the great working relationship we have with Rayburn Correctional Center and the Children's Advocacy Center."
