Blood samples test positive for West Nile virus in St. Charles Parish

ST. ROSE, LA (WVUE) - Residents in areas of St. Charles Parish are being warned of the presence of West Nile.

According to St. Charles Parish Government, chicken blood samples tested positive for West Nile Virus in Paradis, Destrehan, St. Rose and New Sarpy.

Mosquito Control Services Inc. personnel have increased spraying and other abatement measures in the area.

All residents are urged to avoid mosquito bites by avoiding being outside at dawn and dusk, wearing pants and long sleeves and using insect repellent containing DEET.

To eradicate mosquito breeding sites, be sure to dump out any standing water in yards.
