New Orleans man dies in three-vehicle crash on I-10

A three-vehicle crash on I-10 took the life of a New Orleans man early Saturday morning.

State Police say that 56-year-old Kenneth C. Nolting was driving his 1996 Nissan Altima eastbound on I-10 on Aug. 6 around 1:30 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, he went offroad and drove into the cable barrier.

According to State Police Nolting rode the cable barrier for about half-a-mile before reaching an opening and going into the westbound travel lanes where he ran in to a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 26-year-old Blerond Oda from Merrillville, IN.

The crash caused Nolting's car to spin into the path of an International box truck driven by 43-year-old James Spears of Baton Rouge causing a third crash.

Nolting was restrained, but died as a result of the crash. Oda was properly restrained and sustained moderate to serious injuries. She was transported to Interim LSU Hospital. Spears was restrained and was uninjured in the crash.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Driver impairment is not known at this time. Toxicology samples were taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police crime lab for analysis.
