NOPD arrests suspect in Mid City rape case

Police made an arrest in connection with an Aggravated Rape that occurred Saturday morning in Mid City.

55-year-old Terry Sippio was arrested Saturday night in St. John Parish for a sexual assault committed that morning, according to NOPD.

Sippio is suspected of raping a 33-year-old woman after picking her up at the corner of Tulane avenue and S. Jefferson Davis Parkway at 6 a.m. on Sept. 6.

Police say the victim was walking when Sippio pulled up and offered her a ride. She allegedly got into the vehicle and police say Sippio drove her to the corner of Toulouse and S. Jefferson Davis Parkway where he sexually assaulted the victim at knifepoint.

According to NOPD, the victim was able to flee the vehicle and hide until Sippio left the area. Police say the victim took down the car's license plate number as it left and flagged down a nearby police officer for help.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Sippio as the person responsible for the sexual assault and issued an arrest warrant. He was arrested later that night in St. John Parish.
