Search continues for escaped inmate in Lafourche Parish

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Department is searching for a man who escaped from the parish's detention center Sunday evening.

Police say that 26-year-old Jason Dempster is on the run and they believe that he is in the Thibodaux area.

Dempster was serving a 90-day sentence for not paying over $5,000 in child support. Deputies say he was considered a 'low risk' inmate.

He was also being held as a fugitive out of Assumption Parish for a contempt of court charge for not appearing in court for traffic violations, according to police.

The Thibodaux Police and other agencies are assisting the LPSO in the search for Dempster. Police warn citizens to be on the lookout for Dempster and to immediately call the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Department at 985-446-2255 if they spot Dempster or witness any suspicious activity.
