COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - The new St. Tammany Parish coroner signed a cooperative endeavor agreement with the parish president Tuesday.
The agreement became mandatory during Dr. Peter Galvan's administration when the State Legislature put the coroner's office under parish control.
In the document signed today, Dr. Charles Preston agrees, among other things, to provide a budget for the Parish Council to approve.
"This document is going to save the taxpayers money, and it's going to save the taxpayers a significant amount of money while allowing us to move forward," Preston said.
The agreement allows the council to keep a close eye on the financial workings of the coroner's office.
