Odor reported in Orleans drinking water

The New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board is aware of the slightly unusual odor present in the city's drinking water.

Water quality testing performed by the S&WB lab indicates that the drinking water is safe to drink and that it meets or exceeds all EPA and LA-DHH water quality requirements.

A S&WB spokesperson says during this time of the year it is not unusual to experience taste and odors issues related to algae from the Mississippi River and some people are more sensitive to these types of events than others.

The Sewerage and Water Board says it will continue to monitor the situation.
