Salmen High honors alums killed in car crash

Members of the Salmen High School family held a moment of silence Friday, for two of their own.

Assistant Salmen football coach Daniel Hanlon and Slidell Police Detective John Cole, both alums of the school, lost their lives following a crash on Old Spanish Trail near I-10 last weekend.

"Both Detective Cole and Daniel Hanlon were part of the 2000 State Championship team at Salmen High," said Slidell Police Det. Daniel Seuzeneau. "They were big parts of that school."

Seuzeneau said the victims were longtime friends; both well-known throughout the community.

"Two great guys, two huge losses," he said. "Daniel was the best man in John Cole's wedding, so, it's a tragedy all the way around."

"The focus is on the family of the Detective Cole and Daniel Hanlon," Seuzeneau said. "Detective Cole left behind a wife, two beautiful daughters -- one four years old, one six months -- and you know the hard thing to imagine is the fact that, those two little girls will never have dad to hold them again."

Funds have been set up for the families of Cole and Hanlon. For more information, contact the Slidell Police Department.
