Falling tree limb kills motorcyclist, seriously injures another

LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WVUE) -- - Louisiana State Police Troopers are investigating an incident where a falling tree limb kills one motorcyclist and injures another. The incident occurred Sunday, just before 1:30 p.m. On Highway 22, just east of Highway 16 in Livingston Parish.

According to police, 53-year-old Travis P. Lessard of Gonzales and his brother, 52-year-old Joseph S. Lessard, of Maurepas were each driving motorcycles east on Hwy 22. As the brothers continued to travel east, both were struck by a falling tree limb. Travis was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Gonzales where he was pronounced dead due to injuries sustained after being struck by the limb. Joseph, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

Troopers do not believe either rider was impaired. Both Joseph and Travis were wearing helmets at the time of the incident.
