After dad gets life, mom gets 21 years in death of son

EDGARD, La. (AP) - A state judge in Edgard has sentenced 49-year-old Errol Victor to life in prison and his wife, 40-year-old Tonya Victor, 40, to 21 years for the beating death of her 8-year-old son M.L. Lloyd III in 2008.

Our partners at | The Times-Picayune report that District Judge Mary Hotard Becnel handled down the punishment Monday during a sentencing hearing at the St. John the Baptist Parish Courthouse.

A jury found Errol Victor guilty as charged of second-degree murder on Aug. 1.

Tonya Victor was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter, which carries a discretionary sentence. Because the victim was younger than 10, she faced 10 years to 40 years in prison without probation or suspension of the sentence, according to state law.
