METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - A new 900 pound sculpture now stands 14.5 feet tall on Veterans Memorial Boulevard.
Crews began installation of the massive metal and wood sculpture on Wednesday morning. The sculpture, called "Earth," was created by Metairie artist Garrett Haab.
Haab is a self-taught metal sculptor who creates three-dimensional welded pieces. He welded his first metal sculpture in 2011.
To prepare for installation, a five-foot by five-foot concrete pad was poured in the 4200 block of Veterans near the intersection of Independence Street.
The Jefferson Parish Public Arts project is made of western red cedar lumber.
