Coroner: Boy, woman died of blunt force trauma

The bodies of a woman and a little boy who were discovered Monday in a grassy area near the interstate in Gentilly have been identified, and the cause of death listed as multiple traumatic blunt force injuries, according to the Orleans Parish coroner.

The fatal injuries sustained by 4-year-old Richard Gorden and 29-year-old Tracy Jefferson are consistent with being hit by a car, and the coroner is listing the deaths as accidental pending further investigation by police.

Officers said they received a call after a grass cutter discovered the bodies at around 3 p.m. Police said the bodies were very badly decomposed and likely had been there for a few days.

The NOPD's Homicide Division and Fatality Section are in charge of the joint investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
