NOPD: Man in wheelchair steals $500 in booze from Uptown store

The NOPD is asking for the public's help in locating and identifying a man who used a wheelchair to steal liquor from an Uptown store.

The theft occurred Tuesday at a Rite Aid in the 3400 block of St. Charles Avenue.

At about 7 p.m., the suspect rolled into the store in a wheelchair and went to the liquor section, where he took several bottles and put them in a blue backpack. He then rolled out of the front doors in an unknown direction.

The next day the store manager conducted an audit of the alcohol taken and found that the man made off with over $500 in booze.

The Sixth District Detective Martin Smith is in charge of the investigation.
