A 24-year veteran of the NOPD was placed on emergency suspension without pay Wednesday for the unauthorized use of force against a 16-year-old girl, according to an NOPD news release.

The incident occurred Tuesday at the NOPD Juvenile Bureau as the 16-year-old was being processed in intake. The nature of the force used was not disclosed.

The officer, Terrance Saulney, reported the use of force to his supervisor, who then reviewed surveillance video of the incident. After reviewing the video, the supervisor contacted the Public Integrity Bureau to investigate.

Based on its initial review of the surveillance video, the PIB suspended Saulney pending the outcome of the investigation.

The NOPD has notified the Department of Justice, the federal Consent Decree Monitor and the Independent Police Monitor.
