The Coast Guard has suspended their search for two missing shrimpers in Plaquemines Parish, expressing their condolences to the families of the two men lost at sea.
Search efforts came to a halt at 5 p.m. Thursday. Officials searched over 5,745 square miles for more than 64 hours.
Two crew members were reported missing south of the Southwest Pass around 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Coast Guard's command center received reports from an offshore rig reporting a capsized shrimping vessel. Two individuals were rescued from the keel of the capsized vessel. Two were unaccounted for.
The capsized vessel has been identified as the 'Christopher's Joy.'
"Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the two men who were lost at sea," said Capt. Phillip Schifflin, commander, Coast Guard Sector New Orleans.
