Police: 'Career criminal' arrested in New Orleans East shooting, attempted robbery

The victim answered the door to find 24-year-old Samantha Jones pointing a gun at him, police say.

Police say they have arrested a "career criminal" following a shooting and attempted robbery in New Orleans East.

Police say that Jones and an unidentified man were involved in a shooting and attempted armed robbery on September 21. Officers say the incident happened in the 13000 block of North Lemans Street.

Shortly before 4 a.m., officers say that the 28-year-old victim answered his door to find Jones and a male suspect. Both suspects entered the location and demanded property from the victim. When the victim was unable to provide anything of value, officers state Jones shot him in the leg. The two fled the scene.

The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Detectives say they were able to positively identify Jones as the female involved in the incident. She was arrested on Sunday in the 14000 block of Chef Menteur Highway and booked on attempted robbery, aggravated battery, public intoxication and probation violations.

The second suspect has been described only as a white male.

Police say Jones is considered a possible "career criminal" with five felony arrests and five misdemeanor arrests. She was on parole until March 2017 for theft over $500 and illegal possession of stolen goods.

Officers state that Jones has previously been arrested for prostitution, crimes against nature, auto theft, drug offenses, warrants and attachments.

Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to contact Seventh District Detectives at (504) 658-6070.
