JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Police say that the grandmother of a 9-year-old girl reported missing on Sunday evening 'forgot' that she dropped off the child at a friend's house.
Jamainia Larnett, 9, was reported missing on Sunday evening. Jamainia's grandmother, 49-year-old Tammy Smith, states that she picked up Jamainia from a block party and arrived home around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Following an extensive search on Monday morning, police say the 9-year-old child was found safe. Officers say that while transporting Smith for questioning, she told detectives that she suddenly remembered where her granddaughter was.
When questioned further, Smith told investigators that the child was at a friend's home in the 9300 block of 5th Street in River Ridge. Upon arriving at the address, police found the child sleeping in the living room. An elderly man caring for the child said Smith dropped the child off at his home around 7 p.m. Sunday, police say.
Officers say that Smith was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was at times confused.
Police state that they do not expect foul play in the child's disappearance, but several individuals involved are being questioned. The investigation is ongoing.
