Pit bull attacks woman, deputy in Houma

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - Officials say that a pit bull was shot in the leg after allegedly attacking a woman and a sheriff's deputy in Houma.

The Terrebone Parish Sheriff's Office states that the incident happened on Saturday afternoon in the 600 block of Gaynell Drive.

A 40-year-old woman tells police that she was pushing her 6-month-old child in a stroller when she was attacked by the dog. The dog bit her pants leg and she managed to get away without further injury, police say.

Officers arriving on the scene say the dog attacked a deputy as well. The deputy shot the dog in the leg and the pit bull was transported to the Tri-Parish Animal Hospital in Metairie.

The owner, 28-year-old Angella Vanburen, was issued a misdemeanor summons for lease law violation.
