Run for the Warriors 5K benefits wounded service members

Downtown turns red white and blue this weekend as veterans and other community members run for the warriors.

The American Society of Anesthesiologists has sponsored the run for five years.

The 5K event always corresponds with their annual convention. The doctors meet next week in New Orleans.

Ochsner anesthesiologist Robin Stedman says she always participates and it's always inspirational.

"I've seen people in wheel chairs, people with missing limbs, people who had the have the help of family members to get them along the race course," said Stedman. "It's an inspiration to see people overcome these things and the medical people behind them who recognize some of the hard things they do the surgeries and what it takes to get back to an active life."

The race is Sunday, October 12 starting at 6 a.m. at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Registration is $30 with special pricing for service members.

All proceeds from the race will go to the Hope for the Warriors program, dedicated to restoring a sense of self, the family unit and hope to wounded service members.
