KENNER, LA (WVUE) -

The Louisiana Supreme Court has appointed a retired judge from New Iberia to handle the case of a Destrehan High School teacher accused of having sex with a then-underage student.

Anne Lennan Simon of the 16th Judicial District will preside in Shelley Dufresne's case. Dufresne's father is a St. Charles Parish judge, and he and the parish's other two judges have recused themselves from her case.

Dufresne has a court date later this month. The 32-year-old also faces charges in Kenner, along with fellow teacher Rachel Respess.

Both teachers are free on bond.

Investigators say the student, who's now 17, told them he consented to the sexual encounters. Kenner police released its full report on the case Thursday.
